Chapter 2 Three years later
"Why the sad face Kammy?" Kamryns mother said as she was driving, Kamryn in the passengers seat and her four sisters in the back seats, "You know the mansion is twenty times bigger then our house and you'd all get your own rooms, isn't that exciting?" She smiled at her eldest daughter who stared out the window, watching the many trees go by. "I know mommy." Kamryns said distractingly, "It will be great." She managed to smile at her mom to give her a sense of satisfaction then went back to the same position she had been in for the past four hours.
Kamryn wasn't sad about moving, she didn't have friends to miss, and they would no longer have to live in the small two bedroom shack which was most uncomfortable with all seven of them.
Her mother sighed, "Is this about daddy?" she asked, growing frustrated with her daughter, she just wishes that Kamryn would show some emotion sometimes instead of just hiding it from everyone, even herself. "No mommy." Kamryn said, not bothering to turn her head since her mother would know she was lieing.
Her parents had recently gotten a divorce, her mother said that it was because they just couldn't get along anymore but Kamryn knew that he moved in with another lady and they were planning on getting married, not that Kamryns mother would ever tell her daughter.
Kamryn used to idolize her father especially after her grandfathers death, and her mother wanted to preserve that, but lately, in the last year, he had become distant and cold, around the time, Kamryn pointed out, that her youngest sister, Ellie had been born. Her sisters had no clue but Kamryn knew that daddy always wanted to have a boy.
"Well at least we finally got the house, i still don't see why it took the lame brained lawyers three years to carry out my fathers last will." She decided to change the subject, Kamryn wasn't going to budge, so she did. "Its because uncle Johnny fought with them," Kamryn said, recalling the telliphone call between her and her uncle, "He wanted the house and the money but grandfather clearly stated that he would inherit the money, and you the house but that made him mad because grandfather invested almost all of his money into his house especially after grandmother died so he only got one thousand dollars while we got a twenty million dollar house." Her mother looked over for a moment, diverting her eyes from the road. "Kamryn Charlotte, How could you possibly know that?"
"Last time we went over uncles house i listened to his awnser machine while you and he were outside." Kamryn explained, she had always been curious, and she couldn't resist pushing that little bleeping red button. "Why that little slimy rat! I should-" Her mother started, then stopped when she realized all eyes in the car were on her, "Whats wrong my sweeties?" She asked her daughters, Ellie was asleep and the others instantly diverted their eyes back to their coloring books, starting to argue over who got the blue crayon and all being two young to keep what they heard in mind.
Julie gave up on trying to start a conversation with her eldest daughter and just focused on the road and moments later they pulled into the huge driveway. Kamryn got out peering around, you couldn't see the house from the driveway since part of the yard and the trees blocked it, it hadn't changed since she had been their three years prior, and that thought made her smile.
"Kammy, can you get the baby please?" Her mother asked, pulling her other daughters out of their seats and putting them down on the driveway, instructing them not to move or they wont get a cookie. "Yes Mommy." Kamryn walked over to the car and carefully unbuckled the car seat which held her youngest sister, dressed in a yellow dress. Ever since Ellie was born, Kamryn made sure she never wore pink, pink just didn't fit Ellie, she was a yellow girl definently not a pink. Ellie had always been Kamryns favorite, after all, she cant talk. Kamryn also liked that she was quiet, her other sisters had never been quiet even when they were too young to talk and Kamryn liked silence that is why she likes Ellie.
Kamryn picked her up, careful not to startle her and they walked down the short path, Julie leading with the twins next to her and holding Noelle, who was babbling in baby talk and constantly grabbing her puff of red hair that had recently grown in, it was in between being short and medium and Noelle apparently was bothered by this, Kamryn thought about suggesting they just shave it off, but she knew if they did that everyone would think she was a boy because she was one of those baby's that even though their in all pink and usually in dressed with socks that say cutie or princess, people still assume she's a boy.
Then they were there, the twins, who had only been three the last time they had been here gasped, Scarlette grabbed her mothers pant leg and yanked on it with almost enough force to pull them down, Julie who had been used to the many pant grabs over the years instinctively grabbed her pants and Scarlette went "Mommy, look at the house!" Sage went "Are we living there?" while Noelle babbled on in her baby talk, Kamryn figured if she could talk she would say a cuss word then go "Dat a big house." Although that could just be Kamryns imagination since her mother made it a rule that no adult was aloud to swear around her children, although they still did, especially Uncle Johnny whom Kamryn guessed wouldn't be coming over anymore.
Kamryn gazed up at the house, not in awe like the others, almost in sadness. This was the place where she would spend time with her grandfather, where they would play games and explore the house, where he would read her stories.
She really missed those stories of treasure maps and great adventurers conveniently named "Bamryn" that her grandfather would make up on the spot, they were so silly like her favorite, "Bamryn battles the elves then finds a cookie" she used to beg her grandfather to retell the story, and each time he did it would change, but only slightly, the concept was always the same; Bamryn would battle an evil elf named Stinky then her wonderful handsome all around nice guy grandfather would give her a cookie for her good work.
"Well lets get inside children." Her mothers voice broke through Kamryns thoughts, then she followed her mother into the house, knowing that it would never be like it used to, no matter what would happen there.
